Established in 1987 in Melbourne, Australia, prestigious skincare brand Aesop has since built offices and stores across the globe. Whilst primarily known for their formulation of high-quality skincare products and their distinctive brand identity, Aesop's commitment to thoughtful design extends beyond this, to their innovative and immersive retail spaces. 

October 2024 marked an exciting milestone for Marmo, as we completed our second project with Aesop, this time at their Westfield Stratford store in London, where we were invited to install a coarse Microcement in two warm, earthy colours; a classic beige and a custom red, created especially for this project. 

We installed the beige Microcement to the peripheral ceiling, wall and floor areas as well as to bespoke joinery with intricate detailing, creating a seamless backdrop for the store's striking central area, where our bespoke red Microcement was applied to the central flooring and column. 

Aesop's design philosophy extends beyond aesthetics; it is deeply rooted in values of sustainability and local heritage. As Aesop eloquently states:

"A sincere interest in intelligent and sustainable design extends to every aspect of Aesop's workings. Just as meticulous research is integral to the formulation of each product, our utilitarian containers are created with utmost care to ensure they function with ease and are pleasing to our eyes. In seeking new locations, our first consideration is to work with what already exists. It is our intention to weave ourselves into the fabric of place and add something of merit rather than impose a discordant presence, and our consistent practice to use a locally relevant design vocabulary." - Aesop.

Our partnership with Aesop exemplifies a shared dedication to creating beautiful, functional and sustainable spaces. It is a pleasure to work with a brand that continually pushes for designs that not only captivate but also harmonise with their environments in meaningful ways. For Aesop, each store is an immersive extension of the brand's identity - a concept celebrated in numerous design publications including British Vogue and Wallpaper.
